Ukulele Transcription vs. Arrangement
Ukulele Transcription
A transcription captures exactly what is played in a recording — every note, rhythm, and chord voicing written out as tab and/or notation.
- Note-for-note accuracy from the original audio
- Preserves the exact fingerpicking and strumming patterns
- Ideal for learning, studying, and reproducing a performance
- Tab, standard notation, and chord diagrams
Music Arrangement
An arrangement adapts music for ukulele from a different instrument or creates a new version — it may change voicings, keys, or complexity.
- Creative adaptation for ukulele from piano, guitar, or orchestra
- Can simplify or enrich the original piece
- Ideal for performances, teaching, and covers
- Custom voicings and playability tailored to your level

Ukulele Transcription — Frequently Asked Questions
Do you provide ukulele tab, standard notation, or both?
Both. Every ukulele transcription can include tablature, standard notation, or both formats on the same page. Most players prefer tab with standard notation stacked above it, but you can request tab only, notation only, or the combined layout. Let us know your preference when you submit your project.
Can you transcribe for different ukulele tunings?
Yes. We transcribe for standard GCEA (soprano, concert, tenor), low-G tuning, baritone DGBE, and any custom tuning you specify. Just let us know the tuning used in your recording and the tuning you want the transcription written for. We can also transpose between tunings.
Do you include chord diagrams in the transcription?
Yes. Ukulele chord diagrams can be included above the staff showing exact fingerings and fret positions. This is especially useful for strumming-based pieces, songbooks, and teaching material. Chord diagrams are included as a standard option or available as an add-on.
How do you notate strumming patterns?
Strumming patterns are notated using rhythmic notation with up-strum and down-strum arrows above the staff. We indicate the exact rhythm (quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes, syncopation) so you can reproduce the strumming feel accurately. Muted strums and ghost strokes are also marked.
Can you transcribe fingerpicking patterns?
Yes. Fingerpicking patterns are notated note-for-note in tablature and/or standard notation, showing each individual string and fret. We capture hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, and other articulations. The result is a precise, playable fingerpicking score.
How long does ukulele transcription take?
Most ukulele transcriptions are delivered in 2–5 business days. Complex fingerpicking pieces or multi-part arrangements may require additional time. Rush delivery is available for urgent projects.
What file formats do you deliver?
Standard delivery includes a print-ready PDF. Additional formats available on request:
- MIDI file (for DAW playback)
- MusicXML (for editing in MuseScore, Sibelius, Dorico, or Finale)
- Guitar Pro file (for playback and practice)
How accurate are ukulele transcriptions?
Our musicians transcribe every note by ear with meticulous attention to rhythm, pitch, and articulation. We verify fingerings and voicings against the recording to ensure playability. Errors are corrected at no extra charge.
Can you transcribe ukulele from a full-band recording?
Yes. Our transcribers are experienced at isolating the ukulele part from full-band mixes, including recordings with vocals, drums, bass, and other instruments. Audio quality affects accuracy — cleaner recordings yield the most precise results.
Can you create a simplified beginner-friendly version?
Yes. We can create a simplified version that uses easier chord voicings, simpler strumming patterns, and avoids complex fingerpicking. This is available as an add-on and is popular for teaching material, student songbooks, and casual players who want an approachable arrangement.
