Drums Transcription — Frequently Asked Questions
What drum notation standard do you use?
We use industry-standard percussion clef notation with consistent voice assignments. Kick drum on the bottom space, snare on the third space, hi-hat on the top line, toms and cymbals in their standard positions. This ensures compatibility with any notation software and instant readability for any drummer.
Do you include ghost notes?
Yes. Ghost notes, accents, and dynamic markings are all included in every drum transcription. We capture every nuance of the original performance — from soft ghost notes to rimshots and accented backbeats.
How do you notate hi-hat open/close?
We use the standard “o” for open hi-hat and “+” for closed above the note. Foot splashes and half-open positions are also indicated where applicable, following standard percussion notation conventions.
Do you distinguish crash, ride, and other cymbals?
Yes. Each cymbal gets its own position on the staff — crash, ride, ride bell, china, splash, and any other cymbals used. We follow standard percussion notation placement so every cymbal hit is clearly identifiable.
How accurate are your drum transcriptions?
Every hit is transcribed by ear by professional musicians with percussion expertise. We capture ghost notes, flams, drags, ruffs, and every fill in full detail. Errors corrected at no extra charge.
Can you add sticking indications (R/L)?
Yes. Sticking indications (R and L markings above the notes) are available as an add-on. This is especially useful for drum students learning fills, rudiments, and complex patterns.
What file formats do you deliver?
Standard delivery includes a print-ready PDF. Additional formats available on request:
- MIDI file (for DAW playback and practice)
- MusicXML (for editing in MuseScore, Sibelius, or Finale)
How long does drum transcription take?
Most drum transcription projects are delivered in 2–5 business days. Complex pieces with frequent time signature changes or extended drum solos may require additional time. Rush delivery is available for urgent projects.
Can you transcribe drum parts from a full band recording?
Yes. We isolate the drum part even from dense full-band mixes. Our musicians are experienced at hearing through layered arrangements to capture every kick, snare, hi-hat, and cymbal hit accurately.
Do you handle complex time signatures and polyrhythms?
Yes. Odd meters (5/4, 7/8, etc.), polyrhythms, metric modulations, and mixed-meter passages are all within our scope. We notate them clearly with appropriate time signature changes and beam groupings.
